The central aim of the Mathematics Department is the fostering of interest and enthusiasm for Mathematics. We hope to show all pupils that the subject has a value as a tool for many other subjects but also has a beauty and fascination that is uniquely its own. Mathematics is an exciting, dynamic and logical subject which teaches not only mathematical concepts but how to think and problem solve.
Maths is taught in Classroom 3 in the old building. It is resourced with a laptop trolley, interactive projector, white boards and a variety of text books. Lessons are centered on a range of different teaching styles which use all these resources.
In years 10 and 11 there are 5 lessons per week. Each lesson is 1 hour in length. In addition to this there are intervention lessons that take place as needed.
We follow the WJEC Linear specification for GCSE Mathematics at the Foundation Tier and the Edexcel Linear specification at the Higher Tier. These exams are sat at the end of Year 11.
